News from Dave Sullivan

I'm in the process of negotiating a very attractive, but empty factory building locally to become
studios opening early in the new year.

Although only temporary (hence the low rents) it will be guaranteed for over two years.. but if successful may well stay open past that date, (which given the current collapse of finance capital, and the looming recession, is certainly a possibility).

The rents will be competitively cheap, and the spaces can divide up mainly depending upon the requirements of who signs up first..

But to give you an idea, there could be 13 spaces, (two over 10sq m, and the rest at approx 12 sq m), and the rent would be £160 a month all in. (24 hour access, electricity, water, rates, wireless broadband)

The studios could be built into larger areas but a double space would be double that figure - but one or two single spaces could of course be shared..

Scope also for workshop area, lots of storage, as well as a communal/project/performance/
exhibition space.. for use by the artists resident and would suit painters, sculptors, digital - deskbased, and printmakers if own press.. whoever could work there really.I have interest from ex rca, and others.. incl. local. should be an exciting place..! anyway if you want to see it sometime get in touch and we can
arrange it, and please pass my details on to anyone you know who might be interested.

Best wishes,

Dave

The Big Screen wants local films!!

The Big Screen which is sited in Waltham Town Square is part of the roll out of the UK's largest-ever network of public giant screens. The big screen in Waltham Forest is one of 8 permanent structures, to include Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Swansea and Bristol and Norwich. Live Sites project is a development from the BBC Public Space Broadcasting screens project.
The network of screens, known as "Live Sites", are funded by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor and London 2012 partners Lloyds TSB and BT. The Live Sites will be a focal point for communities to come together to enjoy a wide range of sporting and cultural events. The Big Screen in Waltham Forest will carry a range of local information, news, cultural, sporting, education and community events and content.

If you are a film maker or organisation or individual who may be interested in the Live Sites project, I would like to invite you to submit film content to show on the Big Screen. I am looking ideally for film material that is between 30 secs and 7 mins 30 secs long. Anything longer will be considered but due to scheduling demands will not be shown as frequently or will only be used as part of an event, shown before, during or after a live event in the town square or special screening such as a block of films as part of an education/arts project.

The material will need to be supplied in 16:9, on mini-dv, dv-cam or dvd and please do not send me your original or only copy of the film material in case of loss or damage.

I will also be looking for events for the diary listing text box that appears on the right hand side of the screen. I will need the title of the event, date, venue, contact for further information and text to describe the event. Space is limited. If you have an image as a Jpeg, I may also be able to make a slide of your event.
Interested in submitting film material and or event listing? email: bigscreenwalthamforest@bbc.co.uk
Regards
Marie Sleigh
